These machines will work well in public access areas such as alleys, walk ways, plazas, arenas, roadways, fence lines, and other areas which tend to accumulate large volumes of litter.
MADVAC equipment will collect everything big or small that in the past was only able to be picked up effectively by manual means. MADVAC equipment is designed to capture paper debris, cigarette butts, plastic bags, bottles, cans, cups, and leaves.
When to use a madvac
Use a MADVAC where you can't use a traditional mechanical sweeper. The debris described above is especially hard to sweep using the alternative cylindrical broom sweeper machines seen elsewhere in this website. These machines are primarily used in industrial plant operations, warehouses, or paved parking lots. See the broom housing picture from an Advance 6250, (below). On level surfaces associated with city curbs, gutters, or pedestrian pathways often allow debris to slide past the straight edge contact of the cylindrical broom making them ineffective in this application. Dead end locations such as alleys and storefront entrances will prevent the main broom from passing over the top of the debris in order to facilitate pickup. Plus, sweepers have never been able to relocate bulky debris well. This is frequently seen with large volumes of leaves, as their low density causes them to resist "throwing" into a forward positioned hopper.
Use a MADVAC where you have light litter over grass, gravel or rock surfaces. For example, many arena parking lot surfaces are graveled, and will have large volumes of trash following a major sporting event. MADVAC equipment will pull the light litter from this gravel surface, without disturbing the gravel. Plus a temporary public event often uses grassy surfaces to provide vehicle parking. You can not mechanically sweep these grassy surfaces, but a MADVAC will transport over this surface and also vacuum the trash into its' collection bin.
Don't use MADVAC in dusty applications, or where large volumes of dirt, sand, or salt granules have accumulated. Although there are a variety of dust control methods available with these machines, clogged filters or filter bags are going to slow the air flow and reduce performance. Use a mechanical sweeper in these applications.
